A new student-focused football tournament has kicked off at Ti Rocher RC Primary School, designed to scout and elevate the emerging athletic potential of its young learner population as a core component of the institution’s wider holistic education strategy. School administrators note the event is not structured as a standard one-off sports day activity, but a carefully curated multi-week program that integrates athletic growth with key life skill building for all participating pupils. To set the foundation for fair, peer-led team dynamics, school coaches selected eight top-performing young footballers from across different year groups to serve as team captains and vice-captains. These student leaders will oversee four distinct squads competing in a full round-robin fixture schedule spanning two weeks of after-school and weekend play. Under the tournament’s competitive structure, the top-ranked team at the end of the round-robin stage will earn an automatic berth in the championship final, while the teams finishing second and third will face off in a semi-final playoff to claim the remaining final spot. Ti Rocher RC Primary principal Melina Mathurin emphasized that the initiative’s core mission extends far beyond on-pitch athletic performance. “This tournament gives our pupils a dedicated platform to show off and refine their football skills, but its real value lies in helping them master critical transferable skills: collaborative teamwork, clear peer-to-peer communication, personal discipline, leadership capabilities, respectful sportsmanship, and an understanding of healthy, fair competition,” Mathurin explained. She added that the program was intentionally designed to break down gender barriers in school sports, encouraging equal participation from both male and female students to foster a more inclusive campus culture. The tournament also serves as a constructive, supervised outlet for pupils to channel their youthful energy and creative drive, while supporting them to build greater personal self-confidence through hands-on, low-stakes competitive experience.
