FLOW price increase going ahead November 1, FTC confirms

Barbados-based telecommunications regulator the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) has officially confirmed that regional telecom giant FLOW will roll out tiered increases of up to $10 on select broadband and bundled service plans effective November 1, dispelling widespread unsubstantiated social media claims that the price adjustments had been delayed until February 1, 2027. The regulator emphasized that the false postponement notice circulating across consumer groups was never authorized or released by FLOW or any official oversight body. The price adjustments will be rolled out in gradual phases, with select qualifying service packages set to receive expanded data bandwidth as part of the updated offering. The FTC acknowledged that it does not hold statutory regulatory authority over broadband service pricing to block the planned increases outright, but it has intervened to address unfair contractual terms that would have forced customers to submit formal written cancellation notices within a 20-day window, even though FLOW is legally required to provide 30 days of advance notice for any service or pricing changes. The Commission has issued binding directives to FLOW mandating that all affected customers retain the full right to terminate their existing service contracts with zero financial penalty at any point across the entire 30-day notification window, using any accepted communication channel including in-person visits, phone calls, digital messaging or written correspondence. FLOW has also been ordered to build a streamlined, easily accessible cancellation process for all subscribers, and to issue formal written confirmation of every customer’s termination request immediately after it is submitted. The FTC clarified that no directive waives customers’ existing legal obligation to settle all outstanding balances for services they have already consumed or any other contractually lawful owed amounts. The regulator has published a dedicated hotline (424-0260) and official email address (info@ftc.gov.bb) for consumers to report unexpected bill increases that arrive without the required 30 days’ advance notice, and confirmed that its oversight teams will conduct ongoing, regular audits of FLOW’s full rollout of the price changes to ensure full compliance with all consumer protection rules.
