One month after he was first reported missing, a Belizean police constable has been found alive in the northern district of Orange Walk, law enforcement officials confirmed this Thursday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith confirmed in a press briefing that officers tracked down 31-year-old Kenyon Barrow after identifying him on surveillance camera footage captured at a location he was known to visit regularly before he went missing. Acting on this tip, uniformed officers were dispatched to the area immediately, and they successfully located Barrow at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
While initial observations indicate Barrow is in relatively sound physical condition, Smith explained that he has been placed into preventive medical care as a standard precaution. Authorities have not yet determined the full circumstances surrounding Barrow’s disappearance last September, nor have they confirmed whether he remained within Belize’s borders for the entire duration he was unaccounted for. Investigations are currently on hold until Barrow completes his required medical assessment, after which detectives will resume questioning to piece together the timeline of his disappearance.
Smith also addressed previous reports that Barrow had abandoned his assigned police post prior to going missing. According to Smith, the Belize Police Department will now follow all internal administrative protocols to review Barrow’s status as a serving officer once the criminal investigation into his disappearance is concluded. The case has drawn significant public attention in Belize since Barrow was first reported missing on September 18, with community groups assisting local police in search efforts across multiple districts over the past four weeks.
