Daniel Ali Shillingford to represent Dominica at Panamerican Elite Boxing Championships in Mexico

As the first ever Panamerican Elite Continental Championships approaches, the small Caribbean nation of Dominica is gearing up to make its mark on the regional boxing stage, sending rising talent Daniel Ali Shillingford and veteran coach Mc Neil Jules to compete in Puebla, Mexico, when the tournament kicks off from October 17 to 25, 2026.

The upcoming championship is set to gather the most skilled elite boxing athletes from across North, Central and South America and the Caribbean, creating one of the most high-profile regional boxing gatherings in recent history. Beyond just a standalone competition, the event carries critical competitive weight: it marks the very first qualification pathway for boxers aiming to secure spots at the 2027 Pan American Games, scheduled to take place in Lima, Peru, making every bout count for athletes with their sights set on next year’s major multi-sport event.

Shillingford, who will step into the ring in the men’s 80-kilogram weight division, is set to face off against some of the most decorated and talented boxing competitors on the entire continent. Under the careful tutelage of Jules, who has decades of experience training boxing talent, the young athlete has spent months refining his technique, building endurance and sharpening his competitive edge to take on these experienced opponents. Domestically, the country’s highest sporting body has thrown its full support behind the delegation.

The Dominica Olympic Committee has publicly extended its warmest wishes to Shillingford and Jules, noting that the tournament represents a landmark opportunity for Dominican boxing to earn much-needed international visibility and showcase the emerging talent coming out of the small island nation often called the Nature Island. The committee also reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to lifting up local athletes, investing in their development and creating pathways for them to compete and succeed at elite international tournaments. Officials have shared that they hold strong confidence in the delegation’s preparation and potential to perform well in Mexico.

Leading up to the first bouts, the official tournament draw is scheduled to take place on October 17. Once the draw is finalized, specific competition dates and full match-up details for all participating boxers, including Shillingford, will be confirmed to athletes and fans ahead of the opening rounds of competition.
