A fatal weekend incident in Barbados has led to a young woman being placed behind bars ahead of her upcoming trial, according to official court proceedings. Kaena Luenda O’Garro, a 22-year-old resident of the Rose Hill neighborhood of St Peter, made her first court appearance on Wednesday in connection with the death of 31-year-old Mesha Pierre, who previously resided in Sugar Hill, St Joseph. O’Garro faces a serious indictable charge of first-degree murder in connection with the killing that took place on Saturday, October 10.
The arraignment was held at the Holetown Magistrates’ Court, where legal protocol does not require the accused to enter a formal plea at this early stage of the indictable offense process. O’Garro is represented by experienced legal counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens, who holds the rank of Senior Counsel. Following the brief hearing, Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant ruled that the defendant would be held in on-remand detention at a state prison facility. She is scheduled to next appear in court for a procedural hearing on November 9, as the legal process around the homicide case moves forward.
