Man met Glock-pistool en munitie aangehouden bij Moeroekriki

A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody near Moeroekriki along the Weg naar West-Suriname after authorities discovered a loaded Glock pistol and 10 live rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect, identified only by the initials B.L., faces charges under the nation’s firearms legislation for illegal possession of a regulated weapon.

The arrest was carried out jointly by a game warden and personnel from the country’s National Forest Administration and Forest Inspection (LBB). During the stop, law enforcement recovered a Glock Model 23 handgun, a popular compact semi-automatic pistol, from the suspect.

Following his apprehension, B.L. was transferred to the Zanderij district police station for further questioning and investigation. In his initial interview with authorities, the suspect confirmed that he did not hold any special license or permit required to legally carry a concealed firearm in Suriname.

B.L. told investigators that he was carrying the weapon for personal self-defense. He also claimed that the pistol originally belonged to his late father, who had passed away, and that he had retained possession of it after his father’s death.

After consulting with the Public Prosecution Service, authorities ordered the suspect be placed in pre-trial detention to support the ongoing investigation. Police have confirmed that the case remains open, and they are continuing to pursue leads and process evidence related to the illegal firearms possession.
