De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB) is set to implement sweeping new security updates for its online banking services this Friday, introducing mandatory transaction approval requirements while raising the platform’s daily transaction cap to meet growing customer demand for larger digital payments. As part of the pre-announced system overhaul, the bank’s online banking portal will be temporarily unavailable for six hours overnight between October 16 and 17, with outages scheduled from midnight to 6:00 a.m. local time while technical teams complete backend updates.
Following the completion of the system upgrade, all customers logging into the bank’s mobile banking application for the first time will be required to re-register their personal devices. During this re-registration process, users will be prompted to enable a suite of new core security features, including push transaction alerts and mandatory two-step transaction verification. Users retain the option to keep their existing personal identification number (PIN) or set a new custom code to align with their preferences.
The most impactful policy change coming with the update is a new requirement that all online transactions, regardless of their total monetary value, must receive explicit approval directly through the DSB mobile banking app. For the approval process to function correctly, both the authorization tool and push notification feature must remain enabled on a user’s device. These features send real-time approval requests directly to a customer’s registered device whenever a new transaction is initiated, ensuring only the account holder can confirm and complete a payment. DSB officials note that these extra layers of protection will build a far more secure and reliable digital banking ecosystem for all account holders, reducing the risk of fraudulent transactions and unauthorized access.
The enhanced security framework has also allowed the bank to raise the daily transaction limit for mobile and online banking to 300,000 Surinamese dollars, with the same limit applied to equivalent transactions processed in U.S. dollars or euros. The adjusted cap applies to all common transaction types, including transfers between DSB client accounts, domestic transfers to other financial institutions, and utility and service bill payments. The change is designed to give customers greater flexibility when processing large-value digital payments, removing unnecessary barriers for personal and business users alike.
To support customers through the transition, DSB has published step-by-step re-registration guides across all its official social media channels, making it easy for users to complete the process independently. For customers who need in-person support, the bank will also host a special Online Banking Pop-up Day at its headquarters on Saturday, October 17, running from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Attendees can receive one-on-one guidance for device re-registration and activation of all new security settings, ensuring a smooth transition to the updated platform.
