For Caribbean music communities, intergenerational connection and cultural legacy are more than just concepts — they are living traditions carried forward by the children of icons. A new album from Saint Lucian musician Thomas Fevrier, professionally known as Mr Platinum, is carrying on this tradition by honoring the legacy of his late father, legendary Saint Lucian musician and cultural award recipient Hubert “Breeze” Fevrier.
Released on September 26, Mr Platinum’s 10-track project *Butter Cup ’26* is far more than a standard collection of songs. It is a deeply personal love letter, crafted to bridge generational gaps in Saint Lucian music and preserve the rich cultural heritage that Hubert “Breeze” Fevrier helped build. The project features collaborations with a range of fellow Saint Lucian artists, grounding the album in local creative identity that reflects the elder Fevrier’s lifelong work.
One standout track on the album is *Ti Kwa*, a song sung entirely in Saint Lucian Creole that serves as the project’s thematic core. Accompanying the track is an evocative music video that weaves together intimate imagery of everyday Saint Lucian life with portraits of iconic local figures, including Carlton “Coaks” Cyril, best known for his work with the beloved local group Che Campeche. The video closes with a nod to the elder Fevrier’s legacy, particularly his seminal work *Pawol Sewiye*, framing Hubert’s decades of cultural contribution as the foundational backbone of Mr Platinum’s own artistic journey.
Now based in Baytown, Texas, Mr Platinum opened up about the personal meaning behind the project in recent interviews. In an appearance on the Game Changers Hub Podcast, he explained that *Butter Cup ’26* is not only a tribute to his father but also a love letter to the global community of Caribbean music lovers.
For Mr Platinum, the tribute extends beyond just honoring his father’s musical career. In reflecting on his childhood memories, he emphasized that what he most admires and seeks to carry forward is his father’s personal character: his relentless perseverance to master his craft, his kindness toward others, and his deep capacity for love. These qualities, he says, are as much a part of Hubert “Breeze” Fevrier’s legacy as the music he created.
Beyond personal tribute, the project aligns with Mr Platinum’s long-term artistic goal: to “build hieroglyphs” — that is, to create lasting works of cultural significance that will endure long after his own lifetime. With *Butter Cup ’26*, he has taken a major step toward that goal, while ensuring that his father’s indelible mark on Saint Lucian culture continues to be celebrated by new audiences around the world.
