Masked armed bandits rob Corentyne businessman

A violent armed robbery has shaken the small community of Number 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, after three masked assailants targeted a local 57-year-old Corentyne-based beverage business late Saturday afternoon. Authorities have confirmed the incident, which unfolded at approximately 7:35 p.m. on the premises of the victim’s enterprise, left no physical harm to anyone present but has raised new concerns about small business security in the region.

According to official statements from the Guyana Police Force, the victim was working in the cashier section of his beverage depot – which occupies the ground floor of his combined residential and commercial property – when the three men forced their entry into the business. Law enforcement officials detailed that one of the intruders was armed with a loaded handgun, while the two accomplices carried melee weapons: a baseball bat and a cutlass, respectively.

After confronting the business owner directly, the suspects demanded he hand over all available cash on site. Once they obtained an undisclosed sum of money, the trio fled the scene quickly in a dark-grey passenger vehicle, and have remained at large as of the latest police update. Notably, investigators confirmed that no shots were discharged during the confrontation, and no injuries were reported among the businessman, any staff, or bystanders who may have been in the area.

To advance their ongoing investigation, police have confirmed that they have already obtained closed-circuit television footage from the area surrounding the business, which is currently undergoing forensic review to identify potential leads on the suspects’ identities, backgrounds, and current whereabouts. The force has not released the name of the victim to protect his personal security, nor have they disclosed the exact total of cash stolen during the heist. Local residents have called for increased police patrols in the area following the incident, as the community waits for updates on the investigation’s progress.
