Suriname’s national police force, Korps Politie Suriname (KPS), has issued an official notification of temporary traffic adjustments around the Court of Justice of Suriname, set to take effect on Friday, 2 October. The adjustments are being implemented to accommodate the official opening ceremony for the 2026-2027 judicial sitting year.
Under the announced measures, two key downtown stretches will be fully closed to all vehicle traffic starting from approximately 6:00 a.m. local time. These include the segment of Henck Arronstraat located adjacent to Tamarindelaan, as well as the section of Lim A Postraat connecting to the Waterkant area. The route closures and accompanying diversions will remain in place until all opening-related activities have been fully completed.
In addition to traffic restrictions, KPS has confirmed that no parking will be permitted anywhere within the cordoned off closed area for the duration of the event. To ensure smooth flow of traffic and public safety during the temporary changes, the police force is urging all road users to plan their travel routes in advance to accommodate the closures, and to strictly follow all on-site instructions issued by deployed police officers.
This annual ceremonial event is a key fixture in Suriname’s judicial calendar, drawing judicial officials, legal practitioners and government representatives to the central Court of Justice venue, hence the requirement for coordinated traffic management to support the smooth running of the opening proceedings.
