In a recent law enforcement operation in northern Belize, a 38-year-old woman from Ranchito Village, Corozal District, has been taken into custody and formally charged following the seizure of more than 20 grams of suspected crack cocaine at her home. The case unfolded when local police carried out a court-authorized search warrant at the residence of the suspect, identified publicly as Pineda.
Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith, the lead official on the operation, detailed the sequence of events to the public. When officers arrived at the property, announced their identities and credentials, Pineda answered the door. Immediately upon recognizing the visitors as law enforcement personnel, she made a quick attempt to dispose of an item she was holding by throwing it away from her person, Smith explained.
Acting promptly, responding officers recovered the discarded object before it could be lost or damaged. Forensic processing of the item confirmed it held 20.31 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a quantity that exceeds typical amounts for personal use under Belizean drug law.
Following the seizure, Pineda was placed under arrest on two separate charges. The primary count is possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply, a criminal offense that carries significantly harsher penalties than simple personal possession in Belize. She also faces a second charge of obstruction of justice, stemming from her deliberate attempt to discard and destroy the evidence of the alleged narcotics violation.
