The 2026 edition of the Limacol Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) kicked off at Bridgetown’s iconic Kensington Oval on Saturday, September 5, with an exciting opening clash that saw pre-tournament contender Trinbago Knight Riders claim an emphatic 21-run victory over three-time defending champions Barbados Tridents Women.
After Tridents skipper won the pre-match coin toss and elected to send the Knight Riders into bat first, the tournament’s new entrants faced an early setback that could have derailed their innings. Fast bowler Shawnisha Hector thought she had claimed the early wicket of opener Bhatia via a caught-and-bowled, but the delivery was ruled a no-ball, gifting the Indian international a critical second life.
