As regional multi-sport competition draws near, Suriname has finalized its national delegation for the 13th edition of the South American Games, scheduled to take place across three Argentine cities from September 12 to 26. A total of 14 Surinamese athletes will compete across seven different Olympic disciplines, with organizers and national sporting leaders expressing quiet confidence ahead of the tournament.
The South American Games 2025 will host competitors from across the continent in venues spread across Santa Fe, Rosario, and Rafaela, Argentina. The Suriname Olympic Committee (SOC) confirmed this week that it is optimistic about the performance of Team Suriname at the regional showpiece event.
Suriname’s delegation will feature athletes across athletics, badminton, boxing, taekwondo, tennis, cycling, and swimming. In athletics, D’Angelo Huisden and Domiguel Werson will represent the nation, under the guidance of head coach Deon Boldewijn. For badminton, Rivano Bisphan and Imani Mangroe will take to the court, led by coach Gilmar Jones.
Only one Surinamese boxer will compete at the Games: Domelzo Schet, who trains under coach Maurice Douglas. The taekwondo squad comprises two athletes, Yade Bongsomenggolo and Samero Doebe, with Jurmen Amiena serving as their head coach. In tennis, Yigal Bergen and Joshio Loor will compete, with Carolina Vera Vera accompanying the pair as coach.
Cyclist Xavi Wadilie will carry Suriname’s flag in road cycling events, supervised by coach Christopher Gill. The nation’s swimming delegation is made up of two young swimmers, Ismael Holtuin and Zayn Etnel, who are coached by Fabianne Nabibaks.
To prepare the full contingent for the tournament, Desiré Eendragt has been appointed as official delegation leader for Team Suriname. SOC president Ramon Tjon-A-Fat will also attend the Games on behalf of the committee’s governing board to support the athletes. Ahead of the team’s departure for Argentina, a pre-departure teach-in is scheduled to be held this Friday at Suriname’s Olympic House. The interactive briefing will provide all participating athletes, coaches and support staff with key logistical information, practical competition guidelines and critical preparations to ensure they are ready to compete at their best in Argentina.
