A multi-agency search and rescue mission is ongoing for a local fisherman who disappeared while fishing off the rocky Atkinson coast nearly three days ago, law enforcement officials confirmed this week.
Richard Davis, an adult male resident of Atkinson, ventured out to fish on the rocky shoreline of Big River, a popular local coastal area in Atkinson, at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, according to an official statement released by Fixton Henderson, Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police and the department’s public information officer.
Since that Saturday morning departure, Davis has had no contact with family or friends, and no trace of him has been found, prompting an immediate call for a full search operation. The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force, joined by specialist units from the country’s Coast Guard, has been deployed across the coastal region surrounding Big River to comb shorelines, surrounding waters, and adjacent inland areas for any clues to Davis’ whereabouts.
Henderson confirmed in the statement that search crews have not suspended operations, with teams continuing to assess terrain and scan waters in hopes of locating the missing man. Local law enforcement is also appealing to members of the public who may have been in the Big River area on Saturday morning, or who hold any information that could help officers pinpoint Davis’ location, to reach out to police immediately. Any tip, no matter how small, could prove critical to advancing the search effort.
