Kaela George selected for Cricket West Indies high-performance camp

A promising young talent from the Caribbean island of Dominica, wicket-keeper batter Kaela George, has secured one of just 22 coveted spots at a high-performance development camp for emerging female cricketers organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI).

George earned her invitation to the elite program after delivering a standout performance at the recently concluded CWI Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship, where her skills on the pitch caught the attention of regional selectors. Launched on August 17 in Antigua, the two-week intensive training initiative will run through to August 29, designed to nurture the next generation of elite cricket talent across the Caribbean region.

Unlike routine regional competitions, the high-performance camp offers young athletes access to specialized one-on-one coaching, advanced skill-building training sessions, and high-level competitive match exposure that is rarely available to up-and-coming players at the youth level. This targeted development work is intended to help promising players refine their techniques and adapt to the demands of top-tier international cricket.

Beyond immediate skill development, the camp forms a core part of CWI’s long-term preparation strategy for the 2027 ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, with the goal of building a competitive, well-trained squad to represent the West Indies at the global tournament. For George specifically, the selection marks a major milestone in her burgeoning career, opening new doors for her development and bringing her one step closer to earning a spot on the senior West Indies women’s national team.

The Dominica Cricket Association has publicly celebrated George’s achievement, framing her selection as a point of national pride for the small island nation. In an official statement shared on its social media platforms, the association said: “We’re so proud of you, Kaela! Your determination continues to inspire, and we know you’ll make your mark on the international stage.”
