In a push to expand access to electoral participation ahead of upcoming national elections, Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has announced the addition of 36 new voter registration and voting centers (CIV) to its existing network in the country’s West Department, bringing the total number of fully operational registration sites across the region to 65. The announcement was made public on Thursday, August 13, 2026, marking a key milestone in the council’s ongoing preparations for the electoral cycle.
The CEP has framed the expansion of registration infrastructure as a core part of its strategy to gradually bring electoral services closer to communities across the West Department, which includes the capital district of Port-au-Prince. By increasing the number of accessible registration sites, the council aims to remove common barriers to voter enrollment and encourage broad citizen participation in the upcoming electoral process, aligned with the requirements set out in Haiti’s current binding Electoral Decree.
