Sunday night’s 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League fixture at Arnos Vale Stadium delivered yet another edge-of-your-seat final-over thriller, with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons falling agonizingly short of back-to-back wins by just four runs against the Saint Lucia Kings.
The contest opened with the Kings posting a competitive total of 187 for eight off their 20 overs after being put in to bat. The Falcons put the opposition under intense pressure early and late in the innings, reducing the Kings to 162 for eight in the 19th over thanks to a string of disciplined bowling performances and sharp fielding that brought six catches to the side. Alzarri Joseph continued his blistering start to the 2026 tournament, leading the Falcons’ attack with three wickets for 32 runs off four overs. He claimed the scalps of Kings captain Roston Chase, Darron Nedd and Matthew Forde, notching his second consecutive three-wicket haul of the season. The result leaves the Falcons with one win from their first two matches of the 2026 season, following an opening-night win over the Jamaica Kingsmen. Allen praised his side’s relentless fighting spirit after the match, noting that the narrow defeat would offer valuable experience as the tournament progresses. “To be honest, I thought we had the game, but we just did not get over the line,” Allen said. “Credit to Saint Lucia and the way they batted; they put us under pressure. Our boys fought to the end, and I always believe until the final delivery. We will go back, refresh our minds and come ready for the next game.”
The two sides will not have to wait long for a rematch: the Falcons will face the Saint Lucia Kings again this Friday, 14 August, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia, giving the side an early chance to bounce back from their last-ball defeat.
