According to geological reports, the earthquake initiated at 10:42 p.m. local time, with its epicenter positioned in the Milwaukee Trench, a geologically active fault zone sitting north of the Mona Passage. Precise geographic positioning places the epicenter roughly 196 kilometers east of the town of Miches, and 142 kilometers to the northeast of the popular tourist destination Punta Cana.
