New 20-Megawatt Power Unit May End Threat of Load Shedding

As Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) navigates persistent uncertainty over consistent power imports from Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the regional utility is moving forward with an emergency generation project that could eliminate the threat of mandatory load shedding for local communities. The new 20-megawatt facility, which is currently being installed across the country, has faced minor shipping delays tied to global logistics disruptions and geopolitical unrest, but once operational, it is expected to cover domestic capacity gaps that have forced occasional rolling blackouts over recent weeks.
