Abinader to lead inauguration of new Rainieri Cultural Center in Punta Cana

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – A landmark new community cultural institution is set to make its public debut this Tuesday, as the Rainieri Cultural Center hosts its official inauguration ceremony under the leadership of Dominican President Luis Abinader. The purpose-built space, situated in the heart of Puntacana Village directly across from Punta Cana International Airport, represents a deliberate expansion of the region’s public offerings far beyond its well-known reputation as a global beach tourism hotspot.

The high-profile launch event will draw a diverse cohort of attendees, including members of the founding Rainieri family, senior government representatives from the tourism and cultural affairs portfolios, prominent local business figures, and specially invited community stakeholders. Conceived as a nonprofit public interest initiative by Frank and Haydée Rainieri, the center will throw open its doors to all members of the general public starting October 28, with a curated lineup of immersive exhibitions spanning four core thematic areas: the full sweep of Dominican national history and cultural identity, longstanding local traditions and everyday community life, the unique heritage of the La Altagracia province, and the decades-long evolutionary journey that turned Punta Cana into one of the Caribbean’s most popular travel destinations.

Steering the new institution as its inaugural director is Alex Martínez Suárez, a seasoned architect, academic, and veteran cultural manager who has contributed to every phase of the center’s development since the project first launched in 2022. In his new role, Martínez Suárez will oversee all curatorial and educational programming, build strategic collaborative partnerships with leading national and international cultural institutions, and design inclusive community engagement activities for both local residents and visiting tourists. The center’s formal mandate also includes targeted support for emerging Dominican creative artists, as well as structured cultural education programs that will offer free guided visits for public school students across La Altagracia province. The launch of this purpose-built cultural hub adds a significant new educational and heritage-focused attraction to Punta Cana’s tourism landscape, while advancing longstanding national efforts to safeguard, celebrate, and share distinct Dominican cultural identity for generations to come.
