Cloudy, Showery Sunday With Rain Mainly in Central and Southern Belize

Residents across Belize are preparing for a damp, overcast Sunday, with the bulk of the expected rainfall concentrated in the country’s central and southern districts, according to an official midday update from Belize’s National Meteorological Service. Released at 12:01 p.m. local time, the forecast calls for scattered periods of light to moderate rain across most of the nation, with isolated thunderstorms also a possibility through the end of the day.

Meteorologists trace the unsettled conditions to a humid east-northeasterly airflow that is currently moving across the Caribbean region surrounding Belize. For the rest of Sunday, forecasters expect mostly cloudy skies interspersed with occasional brief sunny breaks, while overnight conditions will stay fully overcast across the entire country.

Looking ahead to the start of next week, unstable weather will linger through midday Tuesday. From Monday afternoon onward, skies will see repeated stretches of cloud cover, with most areas only seeing isolated, scattered showers through most of Monday. However, the threat of more widespread light to moderate rain picks up significantly between Monday night and Tuesday morning, with coastal zones and offshore waters facing the highest risk of prolonged wet weather.

Marine conditions across Belize’s coastal waters will remain moderately rough through the forecast period. Northeast to east winds will blow at sustained speeds of 5 to 15 knots, generating wave heights between 2 and 5 feet, creating light chop to choppy conditions that could impact small vessel operations.

Temperature readings will vary by location across the country, staying within mild seasonal ranges. Coastal areas will see highs of 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius) and overnight lows dropping to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius). Inland districts will see slightly warmer daytime highs, reaching 87 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius), with cooler overnight lows falling to 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius). Higher elevation hill regions will be the coolest overall, with daytime highs topping out at 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius) and overnight lows dipping to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius).

In an additional update for tropical weather monitoring, the National Meteorological Service confirmed that no tropical cyclone formation is expected across the local region over the next 48 hours, ruling out any major storm threats for the coming two days.
