Sunday traffic diversions planned for sewer works in Castries

Drivers planning to pass through the city center of Castries this coming Sunday will need to adjust their travel routes in advance, as the local Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) is set to carry out critical sewer connection upgrades across multiple downtown streets. The infrastructure project, which focuses on linking a new sewer line from the recently built Vendors Arcade located on Jeremie Street all the way to Laborie Street, is scheduled to kick off at 8 a.m. local time on Sunday, October 18. To ensure the safety of construction crews and support smooth progress of the works, the utility firm has implemented a series of temporary traffic adjustments that will affect both incoming and outgoing traffic through the city.

Vehicles traveling southbound into Castries from the John Compton Highway will not be able to access their usual route through the construction zone. Instead, all southbound traffic will be redirected onto Peynier Street for the duration of the works. For motorists heading northbound out of the city center, WASCO has advised that they avoid the affected stretch of road by taking Brazil Street to connect onto Chaussee Road, which will serve as the official alternate route for outbound traffic.

As works get underway, WASCO is reminding all road users to comply with posted traffic control signs and follow directions from on-site traffic management personnel. The utility company has issued a formal apology to residents and commuters for the inevitable disruption that the project will cause to Sunday travel plans, noting that the upgrade is a necessary step to improve Castries’ long-term waste water infrastructure. WASCO also extended its gratitude in advance to motorists for their patience and understanding as the essential works are completed.
