Gewapende rovers maken USD 10.000 en SRD 300.000 buit aan Willemshooplaan

A brazen armed robbery carried out by four masked men on Monday evening has left local law enforcement in Suriname launching a manhunt for the perpetrators, after the group stole tens of thousands of dollars in cash and sensitive identity documents from a location on Willemshooplaan.

Local authorities confirmed that no civilians or bystanders were harmed during the incident, which was reported to the Uitvlugt police station at approximately 11:52 p.m. local time. Initial preliminary accounts from witnesses and responding officers confirm that all four attackers were concealing their faces with masks and carried handheld firearms during the robbery.

By the time responding officers arrived at the scene, the perpetrators had already fled the area. Along with the stolen cash – worth 10,000 U.S. dollars and 300,000 Surinamese dollars, a combined total of roughly 40,000 U.S. dollars – the robbers also took two passports and sets of car keys for multiple vehicles.

Suriname police have formally opened a full criminal investigation into the attack, with investigators currently working to map out the sequence of events leading up to the heist, identify the four suspects, and determine if any prior criminal networks are linked to the incident. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been announced, and police have not released additional details about potential persons of interest connected to the robbery.
