Jury Acquits Spa Masseuse of Sexual Assault Charges

A high-profile criminal trial centered on allegations of sexual assault during a spa massage concluded on Friday with a jury acquitting the defendant of all charges brought against him. After roughly four hours of closed-door deliberations, the jury delivered an 8-1 majority not guilty verdict on two counts: serious indecency and indecent assault.

The legal case traces its origins to an alleged incident on February 27, 2025, when a female complainant visited a local spa to purchase a hot-stone full-body massage. The woman claimed that during the course of her treatment, the accused masseur touched her in a sexual manner without her consent and engaged in a sexual act against her. These accusations led to the defendant being formally charged with the two criminal offences that formed the basis of the trial. Throughout the proceedings, the accused has consistently and vehemently denied all allegations levelled against him.

During the presentation of evidence, the court also heard details of a prior interaction between the accuser and the accused that took place several months before the spa incident. The complainant told the court that on that earlier occasion, the defendant had blocked her path with his vehicle while she was in a public parking lot. The defence introduced this testimony to contextualize the relationship between the two parties, arguing that the complainant’s account was tainted by prior animosity rather than a factual recounting of what occurred inside the treatment room.

Wendel Alexander served as defence counsel for the accused, while the prosecution was handled by a team of lawyers from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who presented the case on behalf of the Crown. After both sides rested their cases and submitted their closing arguments, the matter was turned over to the jury for consideration. Following their deliberation, the jury’s majority verdict cleared the defendant of all charges, formally bringing this high-stakes criminal proceeding to a close.
