Spaniard wanted on drug trafficking and money laundering charges arrested in Punta Cana

In a coordinated transnational law enforcement operation, Dominican security agencies have captured a high-profile Spanish fugitive facing major organized crime charges in his home country, marking a significant breakthrough against global drug trafficking and money laundering networks.

Working hand-in-hand with law enforcement partners from the United States and Europe, the Dominican Republic’s Public Prosecutor’s Office and National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) took 41-year-old Jonathan Yera Pozo into custody in the popular coastal resort area of Punta Cana, located in La Altagracia province. The arrest was a core action of the sweeping international manhunt codenamed “Fast Lap”, a multi-country initiative designed to take down an alleged transnational criminal syndicate.

The operation moved forward after the Supreme Court of Justice of the Dominican Republic approved an extradition request submitted by Spanish judicial authorities. Spanish officials have named Yera Pozo as the leader of a criminal organization accused of running large-scale drug trafficking operations and laundering billions in illicit proceeds across borders.

During targeted searches of properties and vehicles connected to the suspect, investigators seized a wide range of evidence and assets tied to the alleged criminal activity. Confiscated items include multiple personal electronic devices — mobile phones, laptop computers and tablets — three Ledger cryptocurrency wallets, seven luxury high-end watches, and assorted high-value jewelry. Authorities also impounded a brand-name Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 4Matic sports utility vehicle.

In addition to physical assets, law enforcement recovered a extensive set of financial and property records, including bank cards, vehicle registration documents, loan agreements and real estate contracts. A total of $11,500 in U.S. currency and 79,815 Dominican pesos were also seized in cash during the searches.

DNCD officials confirmed that the Fast Lap operation included 38 simultaneous search and arrest raids carried out across multiple nations. The coordinated action was aimed at fully dismantling the criminal network’s operational structure and collecting comprehensive evidence to build cases against all members linked to the group’s alleged money laundering activities.

Multiple international agencies contributed critical support and coordination to the operation, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Spanish National Police, Spain’s Civil Guard Central Operational Unit (UCO), the Global Drug Information Network (GDIN), and European Union law enforcement agency Europol.

As extradition legal processes proceed, Yera Pozo remains securely in the custody of Dominican authorities, with his eventual transfer to Spain to face trial on the outstanding charges pending final legal approval.
