Nearly a month after two Surinamese men went missing near the country’s border with Guyana, cross-border law enforcement agencies have yet to locate any trace of the pair, a senior Guyanese police official confirmed Sunday.
Deputy Police Commissioner Wendell Blanhum, head of the Guyana Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID), told local outlet Demerara Waves Online News that the investigation into the disappearances remains active, but no evidence of the men entering or being present in Guyana has been uncovered to date.
Surinamese and Guyanese police released official bulletins Saturday formally identifying the missing men. They are 28-year-old Siegello Lorenzo Van Dalen, who has registered addresses at Moustachestraat #29 in Saramacca and Koetaristraat 8, and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo Bont, a resident of Adolfstraat #9 in Wanica, Suriname.
According to police records, the men were reported missing after leaving their individual homes on August 28, 2026, traveling toward the border township of Nickerie in a Toyota Vitz. Their last confirmed sighting was on August 29, when witnesses saw them exit the vehicle in Clarasluis, a district of Nickerie, to board a small boat bound for Guyana.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that multiple search operations have been carried out across border regions, and dozens of potential witnesses have been interviewed for information. To date, no leads that could help locate the men have been obtained.
Both the GPF and the Suriname Police Corps are now issuing public appeals for assistance from community members on both sides of the border. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Derryl Danillo Bont or Siegello Lorenzo Van Dalen is urged to contact local law enforcement immediately. In Suriname, tips can be submitted to the Major Crimes Unit at 403645 or 403252, the national Command Center at 115, or any local police station.
