On August 21, a landmark moment for maternal healthcare in Suriname took place, as Paramaribo Academic Hospital (AZP) welcomed the birth of healthy triplets — the first such multiple birth at the facility in 10 years. Mother Ivanka Koedemoesoe delivered two daughters, named Ishaylee and Imara, and one son, Isay-el, via planned cesarean section. As of the latest update from the hospital, both Koedemoesoe and all three newborns are in stable, good condition. Two of the infants have already been transferred to their mother’s room for regular care, while the third remains under close observation on the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as a standard precautionary measure. This birth marks not only a joyous expansion for the Koedemoesoe family, but also a milestone for the hospital itself: the triplets are the first multiple birth delivered at AZP’s newly opened labor ward. Prior to this delivery, the hospital had not recorded a triplet birth in a full decade. With the arrival of the three newborns, the Koedemoesoe family now has seven children total. Hospital representatives confirmed that the new parents are overjoyed by the addition to their family. To celebrate the special occasion, AZP’s general director Claudia Redan and director of nursing Faucia Niamut personally visited Koedemoesoe and her newborns at the facility, presenting the family with a celebratory gift on behalf of the entire hospital staff. The institution officially extended its warm congratulations to the Koedemoesoe family on the safe arrival of Ishaylee, Imara and Isay-el.
