Dominican Republic surpasses 100 medals at Santo Domingo 2026 Games

As the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games enter their final stretch on home soil in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic has hit a major career and competition milestone: crossing the 100-medal threshold for the fifth time in the nation’s history of participating in the regional multi-sport event.

By the close of the latest round of competitions, the host country’s total medal haul climbed to 105, driven by standout performances across three core sports: weightlifting, canoe sprint, and karate. In the women’s 58-kilogram weightlifting division, local athlete Alicia Feliz delivered a consistent, powerful performance to claim two silver medals for the host nation. On the water, Rafael Feliz and Cristian Guerrero fought off tough competition from regional rivals to secure a silver medal in the men’s K2 500-meter canoe race.

The biggest medal haul of the day came from the Dominican karate team, which added a gold medal in the women’s team kata event, alongside two additional bronze medals. One bronze went to the men’s kata team, while the second was earned by Karen Madera in the women’s -68 kg kumite division.

Entering the 2026 Games as hosts, Dominican athletes and officials set two ambitious all-time targets: surpassing the nation’s 2010 total medal record of 133 medals, set at the Mayagüez-hosted Games, and beating the 35 gold medals the country won at the 2002 San Salvador Games — the best gold medal tally in Dominican history at the regional event. With just two full days of competition left on the Games schedule, both of these historic records remain well within reach for the host nation, as athletes continue to deliver strong results across remaining events.
