BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Cricket West Indies (CWI) is set to host a formal on-field tribute for legendary Barbadian fast bowler Kemar Roach on Tuesday, July 21, celebrating his unprecedented career milestone of 300 wickets in Test match cricket. The honor will take place during the innings break of the fifth and final One-Day International between the West Indies and New Zealand, hosted at the iconic Kensington Oval.
Roach etched his name into West Indies cricket history when he claimed his 300th Test wicket during the regional side’s victory over Sri Lanka in the opening match of a two-Test series held in Antigua earlier this year. This achievement makes him only the fifth West Indian bowler, and the second Barbadian native, to cross the coveted 300-wicket threshold in the longest format of the sport. He now joins an elite pantheon of West Indies bowling greats, including Courtney Walsh (519 wickets), Sir Curtly Ambrose (405), Malcolm Marshall (376), and Lance Gibbs (305).
The on-field presentation will bring together key cricket and government stakeholders, with senior representatives from CWI, the Government of Barbados, and the Barbados Cricket Association all in attendance to mark the occasion. In a concurrent announcement, match organizers have opened free entry to the venue for the day’s ODI, a tribute to the recently deceased cricket icon Sir Garfield Sobers. Event organizers have urged Barbadians and cricket fans from across the globe to fill the stadium stands to turn out in support of Roach and recognize his historic career accomplishment.
Dr. The Hon. Kishore Shallow, President of CWI, shared his praise for Roach’s decades-long contributions to Caribbean cricket, highlighting the unique moment for the West Indies cricket community and the people of Barbados to honor one of the modern era’s greatest regional players.

Since making his Test debut against Bangladesh back in 2009, Roach has solidified his reputation as one of the finest fast bowlers of his generation. Across his 17-year Test career to date, his 300 wickets have come at an impressive average of 28.83, with an economy rate of 3.10. His record includes 12 five-wicket hauls in an innings and one 10-wicket haul across a full match. Renowned across the global cricket community for his pinpoint control, late swing off the pitch, and relentless line-and-length accuracy, Roach has claimed match-winning performances against every top Test side, on home soil and in all major away venues, and has served as the consistent leader of the West Indies bowling attack for most of his senior career.
