Push them out!

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness delivered a powerful address at the funeral of three-year-old Jayce Pinnock on Thursday, challenging residents of Denham Town to confront their complicity in harboring criminals following a tragic home invasion that claimed the lives of both the toddler and his father last month.

The emotional service at Pentecostal City Mission Church became a platform for national reflection as Holness questioned whether community members had ‘unknowingly, inadvertently, or deliberately’ created conditions for criminal elements to thrive. ‘Jayce did not get the opportunity to fulfil his promise,’ Holness stated, prompting attendees to examine their role in the tragedy.

Triggering applause from mourners, the prime minister condemned the romanticized perception of criminals as modern-day Robin Hood figures, emphasizing that ‘they take from you the poor and enrich themselves.’ He warned that until communities view armed individuals as threats rather than protectors, similar tragedies would continue occurring.

Despite noting improvements in the West Kingston police division – where murders have decreased from 10 to 7 year-over-year – Holness acknowledged persistent root causes of violence. His administration has committed to ‘break the back of every gang in Jamaica,’ regardless of their perceived power.

Law enforcement has made progress with two arrests already in connection with the Pinnock case, while Kingston Western MP Desmond McKenzie announced an increased reward of $1 million for information leading to the capture of the third suspect. Both officials praised police efforts while recognizing the ongoing challenges.

Family friend Sabrina Donaldson remembered Jayce as a remarkably bright child who could independently complete errands to local shops. The ceremony concluded with emotional tributes and prayers for the surviving family members, including Jayce’s older brother who has now lost both his father and sibling to gun violence.
