A violent home invasion in All Saints has culminated in a tragic death, transforming the criminal investigation into a homicide case. Mariete Andersone, a 77-year-old Latvian national, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, January 18, after a six-day fight for survival. The elderly woman had only recently relocated to the community, residing there for approximately two weeks prior to the attack.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday, January 12, when Andersone placed a distressed call to relatives. She reported being awoken by two armed intruders in her bedroom. The assailants allegedly struck her in the head with a firearm before fleeing with an estimated US$100,000 worth of gold jewelry.
Family members who rushed to the scene discovered Andersone in her bed, bleeding, disoriented, and bearing visible injuries. Relatives state that their multiple attempts to summon immediate police assistance were unsuccessful. Hours later, as daylight emerged, they encountered law enforcement officers nearby who indicated they were responding to a separate shooting incident within the same village.
By approximately 6:30 a.m., Andersone’s condition had severely deteriorated. Emergency medical personnel found her unresponsive and exhibiting abnormal breathing patterns. She was urgently transported to a medical facility where physicians diagnosed severe head trauma, including traumatic brain injury and internal bleeding.
Andersone underwent emergency surgery and was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. Despite intensive medical intervention, she never regained consciousness and passed away from complications stemming from her injuries. Local police authorities have yet to release a comprehensive public statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
