Road closures for Inspector Cadogan’s funeral

Local transportation authorities and law enforcement officials in Barbados have issued a formal public advisory for all motorists navigating the parishes of St Michael and Christ Church on Tuesday, November 3, notifying residents of scheduled short-duration road closures arranged to honor the late Acting Police Inspector Anthony Cadogan during his official military funeral proceedings. The memorial service is set to be hosted at St Matthias Anglican Church, with coordinated traffic adjustments designed to ensure the funeral procession can move safely and respectfully through local neighborhoods without disruption. According to official statements from the Barbados Police Service, the first phase of closures will impact St Matthias Road, spanning the stretch between Second Avenue, St Matthias, and Hastings Main Road, with full vehicular access restricted from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a second 20-minute closure of the same corridor from 3:00 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. to accommodate the post-service procession route. A subsequent broader set of traffic restrictions will go into effect starting at 3:30 p.m., remaining in place until 4:00 p.m. or until law enforcement confirms it is safe to reopen the affected thoroughfares, at four key locations: the full length of Skeenes Hill between Yorkshire Road and the Ridge Roundabout, Old Newton Road from the cemetery exit point to the Ridge Roundabout, the entire Ridge Roundabout at its intersection with Ridge Road, and Searles Road between Searles Quarry and the Ridge Roundabout. Uniformed police patrols will be stationed at every closed intersection to direct diverted traffic, answer public queries, and enforce the temporary rules. Officials have emphasized that any motorists who intentionally ignore the posted closure signs or refuse to follow directions from on-duty officers may face legal consequences, including a $500 fine or up to three months of imprisonment if convicted in court. The temporary restrictions do not apply to emergency response vehicles, including those operated by the Barbados Police Service, Barbados Defence Force, and Barbados Fire Service, all of which will retain unobstructed access to the affected areas at all times. In their official notice, police extended a sincere apology to local residents and commuters for any unplanned delays or minor inconveniences the closures may cause, and expressed gratitude in advance for the public’s patience and cooperation as the community pays its final respects to the fallen officer.
