Antigua and Barbuda to welcome India’s foreign minister for CHOGM

India’s Ministry of External Affairs formally confirmed on Wednesday that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will head the country’s official delegation to the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) hosted by Antigua and Barbuda, running from November 1 to 4. The high-level visit to the Caribbean nation’s capital of St. John’s will follow a packed schedule of multilateral and bilateral engagements in Atlanta, United States, in the preceding days. This year’s CHOGM is centered on the core theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” with agenda priorities centered on deepening cross-member economic collaboration, unlocking targeted cross-border investment flows, and forging more resilient, mutually beneficial partnerships across the 56-nation Commonwealth bloc. During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized India’s proactive anticipation of constructive contributions and outcomes at the summit. Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne highlighted that the CHOGM theme aligns perfectly with his nation’s longstanding policy of prioritizing inclusive international cooperation and collective shared prosperity. He noted the summit’s guiding principle directly echoes Antigua and Barbuda’s national motto “Each Endeavouring, All Achieving,” emphasizing that tangible, equitable progress is only achievable when communities, nations, and global partners collaborate to build a future that creates equal opportunities for every person to thrive. Ahead of his arrival in St. John’s, Minister Jaishankar will first participate in a series of high-stakes diplomatic gatherings in Atlanta hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The two-day G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on October 30-31 will address pressing global geopolitical flashpoints that are driving widespread economic instability, with dedicated sessions focused on safeguarding maritime navigation security, strengthening global energy and food security frameworks, and fortifying fragile international supply chains. Jaishankar will also join a dedicated Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, bringing together diplomatic leaders from India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, alongside a full slate of one-on-one bilateral discussions with his global counterparts to advance shared diplomatic and economic priorities.
