Energy company Rubis has fulfilled a critical community need by delivering a brand-new refrigerator to Lowmans Leeward Anglican Primary School, addressing the campus’s longstanding challenge of safely storing perishable food and drinks for students and school employees. The contribution, finalized on Friday, came in direct response to a formal appeal for assistance from the school’s administration, which had openly stated it would accept either a new or pre-owned unit to meet its needs.
What stood out to Elroy Edwards, Rubis’ country representative, and ultimately moved the company leadership was the school’s flexibility. Its willingness to take a used unit underscored just how urgent the requirement for cold storage was to the school’s daily functions, according to an official press statement issued by Rubis after the handover. Recognizing the tangible impact this donation could have on the entire school community, Rubis leadership made the decision to go above and beyond the request by supplying a brand-new unit instead of a second-hand alternative.
“When I learned that the school would accept even a used refrigerator, I was struck by how deeply they needed this appliance. It really drove home just how central it was to keeping their daily operations running smoothly,” Edwards shared in comments included in the release. “We were incredibly grateful that Rubis was in a position to provide a new unit, and to make a tangible, positive difference for the students and staff that call this school home.”
Nicole Parris, representing the school’s administration and community, accepted the donation on the school’s behalf and shared that the gift far exceeded the school’s initial expectations. “We are deeply grateful for this generous contribution,” Parris noted, adding that the new appliance will immediately go to work supporting daily meal programs and school events serving the campus.
In its statement, Rubis emphasized that corporate community engagement is a core part of its organizational identity, extending far beyond its core commercial operations. “Community involvement isn’t just an afterthought for us at Rubis. It means actively listening to the needs of the areas where we do business, and finding practical, actionable ways to lift those communities up,” the release explained. “Rubis is proud to have been able to answer the school’s request and contribute directly to the wellbeing of every member of this school community.”
Moving forward, the company reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to supporting local community projects that create lasting, meaningful change for individual residents and families across the region.
