Spooners Hill man remanded on firearm charges

A 32-year-old resident of Spooners Hill’s Ocean View neighborhood has been ordered to spend 28 days in custody at Dodds Prison after facing charges of illegal weapons possession. Shaquille Tremaine Layne made his initial court appearance on Tuesday before Magistrate Jared Richards at the District ‘A’ Traffic Court, where prosecutors formally laid two charges against him: possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of six rounds of unauthorized ammunition, dating back to September 10.

As the offenses Layne is accused of are classified as indictable, legal protocol does not require the defendant to enter a plea at this early procedural stage. Layne is being represented by experienced legal counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens, who holds the title of Senior Counsel in the local bar. The case is scheduled for its next procedural hearing at the Bridgetown courthouse on October 12, where further details of the prosecution’s case and next steps in the legal process will be outlined.
