The Falcons got off to a promising start in the mandatory PowerPlay, with opening batters Evin Lewis and Rahkeem Cornwall building a solid 40-run partnership before Cornwall was bowled off an inside chop by Usman Tariq. The wicket extended Tariq’s historic streak, marking the 17th consecutive CPL match in which he has claimed at least one wicket. The Knight Riders missed a critical chance to dismiss Lewis for just 16 runs, when Terrance Hinds dropped a straightforward catch, gifting the Falcons opener a reprieve.
