More than 18 months after a violent hit-and-run left Jonas Flavius clinging to life and struggling through grueling rehabilitation, his grieving family is now facing an unthinkable loss – and issuing a public plea for the person responsible to finally accept accountability.
Flavius’ sister, Rochella Emmanuel, shared the devastating news of her brother’s death in an emotional TikTok post that has resonated with audiences across social media. She recounted the details of the April 6, 2025 crash that forever altered her family’s life, and called on the driver who fled the scene to turn themselves in to authorities.
According to Emmanuel, Flavius was struck by a vehicle while on Bexon Highway, suffering catastrophic, life-threatening injuries. In what has deepened the family’s pain, the driver never stopped to offer aid or even check if Flavius was still alive after the collision.
“My brother had to be in a coma for almost two weeks,” Emmanuel recalled in the video. After emerging from the induced coma, Flavius underwent multiple emergency surgeries, including procedures to place metal stabilization rods in his broken leg and arm, and treated for multiple fractured ribs.
What came next was a year-long, exhausting journey of recovery that never brought Flavius back to full health. He required ongoing physical therapy, daily medication, and suffered persistent complications including recurring blood clots and chronic swelling in his legs. As more than a year passed, the family clung to hope that he would gradually regain his strength – that hope was shattered on August 10, when Emmanuel received an unexpected, devastating call.
“I got a call notifying me that my brother was found unresponsive on the floor and he was pronounced dead,” Emmanuel said. She described watching as her brother’s body was carried away in a body bag, a moment that still feels surreal to the entire family.
“Living your entire life with siblings, you never think that one day you will have to bury one of your siblings or be part of the planning of your sibling’s funeral,” she said. “We are at this junction now and it is so unreal. It feels like we’re just in a bad dream.”
The loss has torn the family apart. Emmanuel recalled one of her other sisters suffering a full panic attack as emergency responders removed Flavius’ body, and now their elderly mother faces the unimaginable pain of burying her own child.
Emmanuel confirmed that Flavius never overcame the lasting damage from the crash, and that his death is directly tied to the injuries he sustained that day. While an official medical cause of death has not been released, the family holds the fleeing driver fully responsible for the outcome.
What makes the grief even heavier for the family is the fact that the person who caused the crash has never stepped forward to take responsibility. Emmanuel used her platform to issue a stark warning to all drivers about the permanent, irreversible harm that reckless and irresponsible road behavior can cause.
“Drivers, do better,” she pleaded.
She then directed a raw, emotional appeal directly to the person behind the wheel that day: “If this video comes across the person that actually caused this accident and left my brother for dead, do the right thing.”
Flavius leaves behind three young children, who will now be raised by the family with Emmanuel’s mother taking on primary caregiving responsibilities. Beyond the emotional trauma, the family is now burdened with unexpected funeral costs and tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid medical bills accumulated during Flavius’ year of recovery.
“My brother is dead. He has three children left behind that my mother now has to care for,” Emmanuel said. “There is funeral cost that has to be taken care of, there is medical bills that has to be taken care of, and all this falls back on the same family who has to come to terms with the fact that my brother is not coming back.”
The TikTok update served as a heartbreaking final note for the hundreds of followers who had followed Flavius’ recovery journey since the crash, after Emmanuel shared regular updates over the past year. “Some of you were asking for updates on my brother,” she said. “This is the update. My brother is no more.”
