In its fourth consecutive year of collaborative impact, the Daren Sammy Foundation has disbursed $70,000 in educational scholarships through its annual initiative, built on a enduring partnership with Republic Bank’s flagship community investment program, Power to Make A Difference. This year’s round of funding awards 30 scholarships to standout students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement both in the classroom and on the sports field.
Rooted in the core conviction that young people and their long-term development are the most worthy investments for communities, the initiative delivers tangible support to recipients by covering critical education-related expenses including tuition fees, course materials, school bags and uniforms. For many low-income families, these grants remove financial barriers that would otherwise prevent promising students from continuing their academic and athletic pursuits.
Daren Sammy, president of the foundation and head coach of the West Indies Cricket team, highlighted the work’s importance in a public statement shared across his social media channels. “Education remains one of the greatest tools for creating opportunity, building confidence, and shaping tomorrow’s leaders,” Sammy said. “At the Daren Sammy Foundation, our mission of Building Future Leaders, Future Champions continues through meaningful partnerships like this one. We extend our sincere thanks to Republic Bank for sharing our commitment to empowering young people and making a lasting impact in our communities.”
The annual scholarship drive has grown into one of the foundation’s flagship community programs, carrying forward Sammy’s lifelong commitment to lifting up emerging generations across the Caribbean through accessible education and athletic development opportunities.
