Regional cricket in the Caribbean has a new champion, as Dominica’s senior men’s national cricket team has added a historic regional title to its shelf of honors with a hard-fought 21-run victory at the 2026 Windward Islands Super 50 Championship.
Playing against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the final showdown, Dominica posted a total of 248 all out in its innings, before restricting its opponent to fall short of the target by 21 runs. The win marks the second major regional cricket triumph for Dominica in 2026, coming just months after the country’s under-19 national side successfully defended its regional U-19 title back in April.
Across the island nation, the win has sparked widespread celebration, with official congratulations pouring in from the country’s governing political bodies, the main opposition party, and the island’s national cricket governing body. The Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) first broke the joyful news to the public via its official Facebook page, framing the victory as the end of a long-awaited journey for the team. “The wait is over, the mission is complete, and the trophy is coming home!” the association’s post read.
The DCA also highlighted the standout individual performances that powered Dominica to the title. Opening batsman Earsinho Fontaine turned in a match-defining knock of 90 runs off just 91 deliveries, while all-rounder Stephan Pascal finished the tournament as the competition’s top run-scorer. Wicketkeeper Gian Bradley notched the most dismissals behind the stumps across all matches, and fast bowler Micah Joseph claimed the title of the tournament’s leading wicket-taker—an achievement that earned him the Most Valuable Player award for the entire championship.
In its official statement, the DCA emphasized that the title was a collective success, crediting every member of the team’s extended ecosystem for the win. “This championship was the result of the combined efforts of the players, coaching staff, management team and supporters who backed the team throughout the competition. The party reserved special praise for Fontaine, highlighting his consistent all-round performances, steady leadership, and relentless competitiveness across every match of the tournament. “His all-round excellence, leadership qualities, and consistent impact throughout the tournament marked him as a standout performer and a bright prospect for the future of Dominican and West Indies cricket,” the statement read. The UWP also joined the DCA in acknowledging the critical support provided by coaching staff, team management, players’ families, and the national cricket association in delivering the title.
