As Barbados prepares to host the official State Service of Thanksgiving honoring its beloved National Hero, the Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers, local transport authorities have rolled out complimentary specialized transit options to help attendees easily reach the venue tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29.
For guests choosing to use the free park-and-ride system, four designated parking and departure points have been activated across the area: the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Queen’s College, and the National Cultural Foundation Car Park. All of these locations will open to the public starting at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the service, and parking and shuttle access will remain open until one hour after the conclusion of the event to accommodate late departures.
In addition to the park-and-ride network, the Transport Board has arranged direct free shuttle routes to the event venue, Kensington Oval, with scheduled morning departures from four key locations. Buses on these dedicated routes will leave at 7:15 a.m. from the Oistins Sub Terminal, Republic Bank’s Emerald City Car Park, Six Roads in St. Philip, and the Speightstown Bus Terminal.
A separate dedicated shuttle route serving the Bayland area has also been organized, with two scheduled departure times from Bay Primary School: the first bus leaves at 7:00 a.m., and a second shuttle follows at 7:45 a.m. To ensure all attendees can return to their original points of departure after the ceremony wraps up, return shuttle services will be available immediately following the end of the thanksgiving service.
