New data from the World Health Organization (WHO) underscores the staggering scale of this crisis: one in every six people aged 60 and older experiences some form of abuse, translating to nearly 141 million older adults impacted globally. Public health and human rights experts warn the true number is almost certainly far higher, as most cases of abuse, neglect and violence against older people go unreported, making this one of the most underdocumented violations of fundamental rights today.
