LA VEGA – A critical transportation link for residents of La Vega has been restored, after the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) confirmed the official reopening of the Antonio Guzmán Bridge spanning the Camú River. The span reopened to all motor vehicle and foot traffic on Thursday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m., reconnecting multiple disconnected residential and commercial sectors across the city.
This reopening marks the completion of a full infrastructure replacement project, which was launched to address aging conditions on the old bridge and upgrade both regional road safety and connectivity. Unlike minor repair work, the initiative entirely removed the original structure and replaced it with a new crossing engineered to hold up to growing traffic volumes and meet stricter modern engineering standards.
MOPC officials emphasized that the entire construction and replacement process centered on adhering to the most rigorous national safety specifications to protect all bridge users long into the future. Beyond the Antonio Guzmán Bridge project, the ministry noted it will continue overseeing and evaluating progress on multiple other active road infrastructure upgrades across La Vega province, as part of a broader push to improve transportation access and quality across the region.
