A moderate 3.1-magnitude seismic event rattled the area north of Bonao, a municipality located in the Dominican Republic’s Monseñor Nouel province, in the early hours of Thursday, local seismic officials confirmed this week.
The National Seismological Center, which operates under the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), released full technical details of the tremor shortly after it was detected. According to the center’s official data, the earthquake struck at precisely 5:34 a.m. local time, with a relatively deep focal point measuring 75.3 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. Its epicenter was pinned just 5.6 kilometers north-northwest of the Bonao city center, at geographic coordinates 18.982 degrees north latitude and -70.422 degrees west longitude.
In the hours following the seismic activity, emergency management and government authorities across the affected region conducted rapid assessments to check for harm to residents or infrastructure. As of the latest official updates, no reports of human injuries or material damage linked to the tremor have been filed, easing initial concerns among local communities.
