A 35-year-old Barbadian resident from St Michael has entered a guilty plea to weapons-related offences, with the full factual background of his case set to be laid out before the No. 2 Supreme Court in the coming month. Charles Basdeo Samaroo, whose residential address is listed as 2nd Avenue, Paddock Road, St Michael, appeared virtually or in-person before Justice Douglas Frederick during a recent arraignment proceeding, formally admitting to two separate firearms violations. The first charge relates to the unlawful possession of a 7.62 x 39mm calibre AK-47 pattern pistol, for which he held no valid government-issued firearms licence. The second count cites his unauthorised retention of 20 matching rounds of ammunition, also carried without the legally required permit for such ordnance. Prosecution for the matter is being led by Principal State Counsel Rudolph Burnett, who formally accepted the defendant’s guilty plea during the court appearance, and is scheduled to present the full verified facts of the incident that led to Samaroo’s arrest on November 26, 2025. Representing Samaroo in the proceedings is veteran Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens, who has submitted an official request to the court for a formal pre-sentence assessment report, a standard procedural step that will compile background information on the defendant including personal circumstances, prior record details and community impact context to inform the judge’s eventual sentencing decision once all case materials are submitted.
