Several earthquakes recorded across the Dominican Republic today

A series of seismic events shook the eastern region of the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, with a magnitude 3.9 earthquake registered just off the coast of the popular La Romana province, according to data released by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Per USGS tracking, the largest of Tuesday’s tremors struck at 11:55 a.m. local time. Its epicenter was positioned roughly 9 kilometers northeast of the city of La Romana, with a relatively deep hypocenter measured at 117 kilometers below the Earth’s surface.

The seismic activity was independently corroborated by the Dominican Republic’s National Seismology Center, which is managed by the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). The center’s official daily seismic catalog documented three additional smaller tremors recorded across the country’s eastern coastal zone throughout the day.

These supplementary seismic events include a magnitude 3.0 quake located south of the major tourist hub Punta Cana, a magnitude 3.2 tremor northeast of the coastal town Miches, and a weaker 2.6 magnitude tremor registered northwest of Sabana de la Mar. As of the latest public updates, no reports of structural damage, injuries, or tsunami alerts have been issued in connection with any of Tuesday’s seismic activity in the region.
