A pair of young men from two different parishes in Barbados are set to make their first court appearance on Tuesday, September 22, in connection with a mid-September robbery that has led to multiple criminal charges, including firearms and stolen property offences for one of the suspects.
Authorities have identified the two accused as 20-year-old Kemani Antonio Mayers, a resident of St Margaret Village in the northern parish of St John, and 19-year-old Shakoby Shakem Brathwaite, who lives at 2E Field Road in Parkinson Field, Wildey, the southern parish of St Michael. Both suspects face joint charges of robbery stemming from an alleged incident that took place on September 4, according to official charging documents.
Unlike his co-accused, Mayers is facing four additional criminal charges that extend beyond the initial robbery allegation. The extra counts against him include an accusation that he used a firearm during the September 4 robbery incident, illegal possession of a firearm and a single round of ammunition on September 15, and knowingly handling stolen property between September 11 and September 15 of this year.
Both men are scheduled to answer to the charges at the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court when the court convenes today. No further details about the circumstances of the alleged robbery or the stolen property have been released ahead of the court appearance.
