In a gripping low-scoring encounter at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons emerged victorious against the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) by four wickets. The Falcons successfully chased down a modest target of 100 runs, with birthday boy Jayden Seales delivering a standout performance, claiming career-best figures of 4/15 in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Opting to field after winning the toss, the Falcons capitalized on the Warriors’ shaky top order. Moeen Ali departed early for 10, followed by Ben McDermott (14) and Shimron Hetmyer (0), leaving GAW struggling at 26/3. Shai Hope provided a brief resurgence with a brisk 26 off 14 balls, but his dismissal triggered a collapse. Usama Mir (3/18) and Shakib Al Hasan orchestrated steady strikes, reducing the Warriors to 58/6 after 10 overs. Despite a late 21-run partnership between Quentin Sampson (20) and Imran Tahir (2), the Warriors were bowled out for 99.
Defending a low total, the Warriors struck early as Andries Gous fell in the first over. Imran Tahir then claimed two quick wickets, trapping Kevin Wickham (13) and Karima Gore (0) lbw, leaving the Falcons at 24/4. Moeen Ali added pressure by dismissing Shakib Al Hasan and Shamar Springer, as the Falcons limped to 50/5 at the halfway mark.
However, Amir Jangoo anchored the chase with composure. After a cautious partnership with Imad Wasim (16), Jangoo unleashed a late onslaught, smashing Hassan Khan for a six to ease the tension. He sealed the victory with another towering six in the 19th over, completing his half-century and guiding the Falcons to a crucial win. The victory keeps the Falcons in contention for a playoff spot, with CPL action resuming tomorrow evening.
