Harris, Taylor gave Amazon Warriors Women winning start

The inaugural match of the Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) witnessed a nail-biting encounter as the Guyana Amazon Warriors Women clinched a narrow six-run victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders Women at Providence Stadium. The game, a high-stakes thriller, kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last over. Chasing a target of 130, the Knight Riders needed 16 runs off the final six deliveries. However, Kiwi seamer Molly Penfold delivered a composed final over, securing the win for the Warriors with two crucial run-outs and a boundary conceded. Penfold’s calm under pressure ensured the Warriors started their campaign on a high, propelling them to the top of the league table. Deandra Dottin, captain of the Knight Riders, struggled to inspire her team, falling victim to Laura Harris, who was named Player of the Match for her stellar bowling figures of 3/25. Stafanie Taylor was the standout batter for the Warriors, scoring a brisk 45 off 37 balls, while debutant Realeanna Grimmond contributed a steady 33. Despite regular wickets, the Warriors posted a competitive total of 129/7. The Knight Riders’ chase faltered after Lizelle Lee’s dismissal for 36, leading to their eventual downfall. The match, marked by 16 wickets, set the tone for an exciting WCPL season.
